In a near continuation of our previous news story concerning Microsoft’s moves to give the Xbox 360 momentum in its dead-heat race with the PlayStation 3, Sony’s Chief Financial Officer, Nobuyuki Oneda, has implicitly stated that Sony will not respond to changes in both pricepoint and hardware lineup made by Microsoft.
Dow Jones reports him as stating the following: "Our plan is not to reduce the price. Our strategy is not to sell more quantity of PS3 but to concentrate on profitability."
This sort of mindset is anticipated to continue to decrease the burden of maintaining the PlayStation 3 on the corporation’s overall finances. In May of this year (2008) Sony reported a $1.1 billion loss for its gaming division, down from a record $2 billion loss for the same division in the previous year.
