In the oppressive, record-setting heat of the summer of 2001, the departure of Jonny DeViney from Cloudchaser and the flight of Carl Rhoades from the on-again/off-again nature of Sega Nation lead to an epic pairing. The newly-formed DeViney/Rhoades partnership would go on to craft something with staying power, notwithstanding its rollercoaster popularity.
As a result of their cooperative efforts, GamePartisan would officially launch on Saturday, 2 February, 2002 with an editorial gameplan solely focused on home console gaming. The pair reunited during the spring of 2007 to begin work on a complete visual overhaul of the site, and the early Autumn relaunch occurred just in time to compliment the drastic measures introduced to the editorial lineup.
Through and through: the comings and goings, the carrying-on, the “raucous roundtables”, the legendary betrayals, the unlikely victories, the much-deserved nods of respect from peers, rivals and game companies alike, the elite few who have stuck around through it all and those who are just now arriving at this beggar’s banquet…GamePartisan stands today.
Refit with a new design hearkening back to the trends of game journalism’s vault, a new logo inspired by a downtrodden football franchise from a professional gridiron league few care to remember, a progressive editorial policy that seeks to land the bright, dogged bunch of lads that make up the editorial staff on the big stage…GamePartisan “ain’t breathin’ heavy”.
The relaunch and subsequent efforts of GamePartisan are dedicated in living honor of the Holy name of Jesus Christ and Katherine F. DeViney, and in loving memory of Isabel R. DeViney, Trey DeViney, Michael Osborne, Steve Osborne and Claribel Ann Hurst Kilinski.
Enters the stage: GamePartisan.
Period.
